In a recent announcement outlining their 2024 vision, X, led by Elon Musk, shared plans for peer-to-peer payments and AI-powered tools. However, amidst these developments, the company quietly eliminated a feature for paid subscribers. They can no longer set an NFT as their profile picture.
Originally introduced under Twitter’s previous management in January 2022, the feature allowed Twitter Blue subscribers to use Ethereum-based NFTs (ERC-721 or ERC-1155 tokens) as their profile pictures, displayed as hexagons. Clicking or tapping on the profile picture provided additional information about the NFT, including collection details, contract address, TokenID, and minting app. X has now removed all references to the NFT profile picture feature from its X Premium support page.
The removal of this feature is not unexpected, as other social networks have also scaled back their NFT experiments.
